International Student Support

At ZINZ, we understand that moving to a new country for study is an exciting yet challenging journey. That’s why we’re here to provide you with comprehensive support every step of the way. From reliable resources to cultural guidance, we are dedicated to ensuring your experience in New Zealand is positive, enriching, and successful.

Trusted Information Sources

As an international student, accessing reliable information is essential. Here are some trusted resources to guide you:

Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)

New Zealand Legislation

Stay informed about New Zealand’s laws by accessing official legislative documents.

These resources are designed to help you navigate your new environment with confidence.

Immigration Advice: Stay Informed and Safe

When dealing with immigration matters, always seek guidance from licensed immigration advisers to avoid complications.

Why it’s important:

Unlicensed advice can lead to visa application errors, dishonesty issues, or outright rejections.

  •

Signs of unlicensed advisers:

  • They refuse to include their name on your application.
  • They claim to have “personal connections” at Immigration New Zealand.
  • They ask you to sign incomplete forms.
  •

For verified advisers and more information, visit the Immigration Advisers Authority website.

Cultural Adaptation and Communication

New Zealand is a diverse, multicultural nation, and learning to navigate different cultures is a valuable skill. Here’s how we help you adjust:

Understanding New Zealand Culture

New Zealand is known for its friendly, inclusive, and respectful communities. At ZINZ, we host workshops and activities to introduce you to Kiwi customs and values, helping you feel at home.

Building Cross-Cultural Friendships

While it’s natural to seek familiarity by connecting with people from your own culture, we encourage you to step out of your comfort zone. Building relationships across cultures will enrich your experience and broaden your perspectives.

Communication Skills

Immigration New Zealand provides a helpful guide, “Keeping it Clear,” to improve cross-cultural communication. This guide offers insights into effective interaction and understanding for those new to New Zealand.

Cultural Support

At Zealive Institute, we support a diverse learning environment. We want to make our students feel welcome and comfortable expressing their religions at the institute. Students are always welcome to contact the institute’s support team if they have any religion-related requirements and we will try our best to cater to them.

Information regarding religions in New Zealand, including Christianity, Hinduism, International Society for Krishna Consciousness, Buddhism, Islam, and Judaism, and where to find places nearby to practice these religions can be found here.

Practical Tips for Settling In

Here are some additional ways to make your transition smooth and enjoyable:

  • Banking: Open a local bank account to manage your finances easily. Our staff can recommend trusted banks in New Zealand.
  • Healthcare: Familiarise yourself with the local healthcare system and ensure you have the necessary health insurance.
  • Transportation: Learn about Auckland’s public transport options, including buses, trains, and ferries, to navigate the city efficiently.
  • Emergency Contacts: Save key emergency numbers like 111 (New Zealand’s emergency hotline) and your local embassy’s contact details.
